At KPI, we use profiling to build a clear understanding of the athlete in front of us - before we make training decisions, increase load, or set targets. It gives structure to development and removes guesswork from the process.
Getting Started with Profiling
Profiling is where performance begins.
At KPI, we use profiling to build a clear understanding of the athlete in front of us - before we make training decisions, increase load, or set targets. It gives structure to development and removes guesswork from the process.
Whether you’re an athlete looking to improve, or a coach supporting others, profiling helps you establish a baseline, spot priorities early, and track progress with intent over time.
This is the first pillar of The Five Pillars of Performance, and the first pillar we’re releasing resources for inside the hub.
What Profiling means at KPI
Profiling isn’t about ticking boxes or running tests for the sake of it.
It’s a structured approach to understanding how an athlete moves and performs, so training can be individualised, decisions can be made with clarity, and progress can be measured properly.
This pillar is the foundation that everything else builds from.
What you’ll get access to first in Profiling
The first set of resources we’ll be releasing as part of the Profiling chapter include the following:
1) Educational video
This gives you the overview of some of the theory behind our approach Profiling and how it fits into the wider system.
2) The 10 Key Physical Qualities we test (and why they matter)
These qualities form the basis of how we assess performance readiness and identify what needs developing.
This resource will help you understand what KPI looks for, what’s actually worth tracking, and how to think about performance in a structured way.
3) Pre-Profiling Preparation Checklist
This is the first practical tool we’re sharing inside Profiling.
It’s the exact checklist we use at KPI to prepare athletes before testing and assessment, helping ensure the profiling process is clear, organised, and valuable from the start.
If you want profiling to deliver meaningful insight, preparation matters.
4) A free Speed & Agility Testing resource
We’ll also be releasing a speed and agility test resource that you can run at home or with your athletes in seconds.
It’s designed to be practical, repeatable, and easy to implement, without requiring a complex setup or expensive equipment.
What’s next after Profiling?
Profiling is the first pillar.
Next up, we’ll be opening access to the Training pillar - with additional theory and a set of tools designed to help you apply what you’ve built here.
The resources across all five pillars will continue to expand over time, and we’ll keep you updated as each release goes live.
